Though we have graduated to even loftier pursuits at the International Space Station since they built the Biosphere in the ‘80s, the media and everybody kind of went nuts about it. I’d show you the articles if I still had them, but somebody wrote a book since then that gives you an idea. One of the astronauts talked about settling on the moon by 2017 and on Mars later, and how something like the Biosphere would be better for that than the hardware type systems the defense companies are used to making. At least the University of Arizona Enviro something something mentioned it might help figuring out what’s going on down here, but it was the idea of putting it in space that got everybody’s attention.
