Past a certain age, we forget birthdays, maybe because we would rather be young enough for birthdays to be exciting like before. Vishnu Schist at bottom of Canyon is very old and has had its share of hard times and pressure. The rock higher up is newer and younger, until the top is in sunshine and breezes of each new day.
